I’m Hannah. I take a modern and client-specific approach to psychotherapy. Though my clinical work is grounded in longstanding and well-researched counseling theories – person-centered, relational, psychodynamic, cognitive, and I’m big on feelings – I think of myself as an empathetic detective. I ask you questions and listen intently; I identify patterns and help you connect dots to encourage greater self-insight; I examine not only what you say in session but how you say it…and I listen for what you’re not saying. Exploration in this capacity informs the way I respond and influences my approach to our work.
With every client, my foundational belief is that I am not the expert on you or your life – that’s you. But I’ll work collaboratively with you to help you process and understand what’s happening to you, what you’re feeling about it, and how you’re reacting to it. I’m on your side, always, and will encourage self-compassion…but I’ll also challenge you. Sometimes, a gentle nudge can affect our perspective. I bring my whole self to our time together because I believe therapeutic growth and healing is nurtured within an environment that is more cocoon-like than laboratory-sterile.
I have a BA in Psychology and French from Goucher College, and I spent the better part of a decade working in public relations in Manhattan. I went back to school for an MA in Mental Health Counseling at New York University, and then worked for several years at a group psychotherapy practice in Brooklyn. I am a Perinatal Mental Health Certified clinician (PMH-C) and a Certified Sex Therapy Informed Professional (CSTIP).
